From breweries to cocktail bars, wine bistros to all-day cafes, Bon Appetit checks out some of the hottest places in Chicago to drink right now!
Special recognition goes to:
- Cantina Rosa, a cocktail lounge in Hyde Park from JBA-winning chef-owner Erick Williams (Virtue) that celebrates Mexican spirits
- Parachute HiFi, a more casual iteration of Parachute (the fine dining Korean restaurant from chefs Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark) in the Avondale neighborhood, decorated as a listening bar and restaurant with wood-paneled walls lined with Clark’s vinyl record collection and lampshade-lit booths
- Gus’ Sip and Dip, a River North bar with a comfortable tavern vibe and cost-conscious cocktails starting at $12
- Toro at Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park from Chef Richard Sandoval, touted as contemporary Latin cuisine without borders, with a menu representing flavors from Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela and a cocktail list to match
- Bar Esmé, an intimate 16-seat cocktail lounge with floor-to-ceiling views of Lincoln Park from acclaimed husband-wife team chef Jenner Tomaska and Katrina Bravo, who created the Michelin-starred tasting menu at their main restaurant Esmé
- Monochrome Brewing, a community-inspired and led project of Enrique Rivera, who grew up in the Pilsen neighborhood and has helped the neighborhood maintain its strong immigrant community business owners despite threats of gentrification
- Bar Parisette, a casual French wine bistro in Logan Square from owner and wine director Matt Sussman with a rotating list of mostly $16 cocktails and an extensive wine list of predominantly French selections.
- Expat Chicago, an all-day cafe and bar in the West Loop serving up everything from coffee cocktails to natural wines.
