Chicago Launches Virtual Field Trips with Cultural Institutions
The Chicago Mayor’s Office announced a new initiative partnering with local cultural institutions to create virtual field trips for kids at home.
The first episode premieres this Wednesday, April 29, and will feature The Shedd Aquarium, home to, among others, penguins Wellington, Annie and Edward. These already popular animals shot to viral fame last month with their own supervised “field trip” around the aquarium.
The Aquarium’s Learning and Community team will also provide corresponding worksheets with activities for families, students and educators to further engage with the experience and enrich this digital learning opportunity.
New virtual field trip episodes, along with the corresponding worksheets, are available online every Wednesday at https://www.hitplaychicago.org/.
Subsequent featured institutions will include the Field Museum, the DuSable Museum of African American History, the Museum of Science and Industry, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Lincoln Park Zoo.
