- The much anticipated opening of the Obama Presidential Center, a 19-acre, multifaceted complex located in the South Side’s Jackson Park that both tells the stories of Barack and Michelle Obama and delves into a larger discussion of democracy.
- The city’s designation as host for UNESCO’s International Jazz Day 2026, reflecting how jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton made their names in this city, developing the “Chicago style” of jazz.
